Jerry O’Reilly
"There Was a Lord Who Lived in This Town" - Early Classic Ballads In The Irish Song Tradition.
...........................................................................................................................................................
The talk focused on a comparison of versions of various ballads collected in Ireland in the last fifty years with the corresponding versions in Francis James Child's 1882 – 1898 collection of 305 ballads - which has been described by some commentators as the "canon" of folk music. Jerry O'Reilly's broad ranging talk will include original field recordings, live contributions from special guests, members of the project and the singing of Jerry himself.
This talk develops upon what Jerry presented in 2013 as part of the project, and featured new songs, research, notes and singers. This years talk featured the singing of Rosie Davis and Jim MacFarland.
Jerry will also present this talk during the projects visit to the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick on Thursday the 26th of February 2015.
